The cover of this hybrid mattress is made using organic, hypoallergenic cotton. It was designed to be highly breathable with a subtle stretch and soft touch.

2. Fiberglass-Free Fire Retardant

A fire retardant fiber blend that provides protection without the use of fiberglass, to keep you safe, while providing stability and durability to the entire mattress.

3. Firmer Comfort Layer (Ages 2-7)

Two individual layers of natural wool offer a sturdy, supportive feel on the surface of the mattress, perfect for younger sleepers.

4. Steel Coil Support Layer

The core of the mattress uses hundreds of individually wrapped 6" coils to maximize durability and support, providing your child with a comfortable night's sleep for years and years.

5. Softer Comfort Layer (Ages 8 & Up)

Birch latex is Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS) certified. Additionally, Birch natural mattresses produce low Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and are free of any polyurethane foams, fiberglass, formaldehyde, or pesticides, meeting the stringent chemical emissions requirements to achieve GREENGUARD Gold certification. This means there is no noxious off gassing.

Does the Birch Natural Mattress contain polyurethane foam?

Birch does highly recommend, though, that you consult the specific safety guidelines for your bunk bed to confirm whether it is compatible with an 8-inch mattress.

What if my child is big for their age?

In developing the Birch Kids Natural Mattress, Birch followed industry guidance around the support required for young sleepers as they grow. The firmer side of the mattress provides a bit more support for kids who are transitioning from a crib mattress. As kids grow and develop the softer side offers a bit more plush comfort.

That said, the age ranges provided on both sides of the Birch Kids Natural Mattress are meant only to offer guidance. Every child sleeps a bit differently and you know your child best! Birch encourages you and your child to test out both sides of the mattress to determine which side works best for them.
