Our Methodology

How We Evaluate Mattresses

Most mattress reviews are based on one thing: one person’s experience sleeping on one mattress for a short time. They simply can’t capture how a mattress will feel to people with different body types, sleep positions, ages, and health conditions — or how that feeling changes after years of ownership.

We’re able to give you a more complete picture. We combine our knowledge as the manufacturer with decades of customer data, plus reviews and independent feedback, to help us understand how products perform for thousands of sleepers, not just one.

We use four key data sources to form our recommendations.

01

Construction & Manufacturer Data

Usually, a mattress's design explains why it performs the way it does.

As the manufacturers, we know exactly what goes into every design decision of each of our mattresses, including:

  • Material composition
  • Foam densities
  • Coil systems
  • Zoned support designs
  • Cooling technologies
  • Material certifications
  • Warranty information
  • Manufacturing processes

This isn’t promotional language: we can tell you how a mattress is built to serve a particular need, so you know exactly why a product characteristic will help you sleep better.

02

Real Customer Satisfaction Data

Patterns across thousands of customers, not one review.

Rather than relying on individual reviews, we evaluate patterns across thousands of customers to understand where mattresses consistently succeed, or fall short.

We analyze cross-brand customer satisfaction data from nearly 2,600 verified mattress owners to understand how their mattresses feel over months and years of ownership. We identify meaningful trends in comfort, durability, support, and overall satisfaction that individual testing simply cannot capture.

03

Customer Research

Surveys focused on the features people care about most.

In addition to satisfaction data, we use results from customer surveys focused on the features people care about most. We ask real customers questions across attributes like:

  • Pressure relief
  • Firmness across different body weights and types
  • Edge support
  • Motion isolation
  • Cooling
  • Ease of getting in and out of bed
  • Overall comfort
  • Long-term durability
  • Suitability for couples

These evaluations come straight from real owners, so they help validate how our mattresses feel across different body types, sleep positions, and comfort preferences.

04

Community Feedback

Reviews tell us a lot, but if we want the honest truth, we're looking at Reddit.

We review conversations across independent third-party communities, including Reddit and other consumer discussion platforms, to understand how mattresses perform outside of the official channels. People often post about:

  • Long-term ownership experiences
  • Unexpected strengths or weaknesses
  • Common complaints
  • Off-gassing/odor intensity when unboxed
  • Recurring praise
  • Customer service experiences
  • Durability over time
  • How mattresses perform for different body types and sleep needs

We don’t treat individual opinions as definitive evidence, but consistent themes appearing across large numbers of independent conversations help us understand broader customer satisfaction trends.

Three Pillars

How We Apply This Information

We take all of this information and evaluate it across the three most important pillars people like you ask about most frequently.

Sleep Position

We look at how well each mattress supports different sleep positions by examining pressure relief, spinal alignment, firmness, body weight compatibility, edge support, motion isolation, durability, and overall suitability for couples with different preferences.

Construction & Materials

We look at the quality of materials, support systems, cooling features, material certifications, durability expectations, and other specifications that can influence performance over time.

Sleep Conditions & Health Needs

For special conditions and health needs, we consider pressure relief, spinal support, ease of movement, durability, and any available clinical or expert evidence. There are also times when a new mattress alone won’t fully solve a sleep or pain-related issue — and we’ll always say so.

Editorial Independence

No two sleepers are identical, so our goal is never to tell you which mattress is best for everyone. We want it to be simple for you to see which mattresses consistently help people similar to you — whether that’s by body type, sleep position, or any other preference or need you have — so you can easily figure out which will be your best fit.

Because our recommendations are based on multiple sources, we’re able to give you more nuanced, individualized recommendations. We’re not basing this on one person’s experience or a claim from a brand: you can see for yourself how people like you experienced each mattress over a longer period of time.

We look for patterns across our own manufacturing specs, reviews, customer satisfaction data, independent community conversations, and established sleep research before making a recommendation.
