What determines the firmness level in a mattress?

Several factors can contribute to a mattress’s firmness level—including foam density, transition foams and coil systems. The product specifications for each mattress, as well as unique features and benefits, can be found on the product page. Mattresses that come in soft, medium and firm level options display a firmness scale on the same product page to help you determine the right level for you.

Are these mattresses flippable?

Most Brooklyn Bedding mattresses should be rotated every 6 to 8 months but never flipped (or inverted). Brooklyn Bedding mattresses are designed with comfort layers on top and support layers on bottom, including individually encased coils in hybrid models. Brooklyn Bedding also uses higher quality materials that last much longer than traditional mattresses. The exceptions to the “no flip” rule are the Plank Firm and Plank Firm Luxe mattresses by Brooklyn Bedding. These mattresses are designed with varying firmness levels on either side of the mattress and can be flipped to customize your sleep experience.

How much weight will the mattress support?

All Brooklyn Bedding mattresses are designed to support up to 950 pounds. If you or your sleep partner weigh more than 300 pounds—and prefer more substantial support—you can check out the Titan Plus Mattress by Brooklyn Bedding.

What type of foundation works best for this mattress?

Brooklyn Bedding mattresses are designed to be used on foundations with solid support with minimal to no flex. This includes slatted wood or metal foundations with slats no more than 4" apart, wood or metal box foundations, and solid wood or metal platforms.

How firm is the plank firm luxe?

On a scale of 1 to 10, the firm side of the Plank Firm Luxe mattress ranges between 7.5-8. This ranking is deemed a traditional firm mattress. The ultra-firm side ranges between 9.5-10—meaning it’s one of the firmest, flattest sleep surfaces on the market but features more contouring than the original Plank Firm version.

What cooling features are available in the plank firm luxe?

First, the Plank Firm Luxe features a breathable quilted top on either side of the mattress, coupled with open cell technology throughout the foam layers, to help ensure a neutral temperature environment. Second, the Plank Firm Luxe mattress is constructed with individually encased coils, which allow for greater airflow.

For even greater temperature moderation, a GlacioTex™ Cooling Cover can be sewn into the Plank Firm Luxe mattress as an optional feature—just look for the “ADD GLACIOTEX™ COOLING COVER” option on the right side of the product page when making your selection. Once you add this feature to your mattress, the cooling top panel will be sewn into the surface of the mattress to deliver ultimate cooling on contact.

The GlacioTex™ Cooling Cover is an optional feature that does not impact the comfort, firmness level, or support of the Plank Firm Luxe mattress.

Does the Plank Firm Luxe have any safety certifications?

Every Brooklyn Bedding mattress is assembled in our Arizona facility, allowing us to ensure the highest quality every single time. "This mattress is great for people that likes memory foam. I got the 75% firm. I should have gotten the 100% firm. But my body is not in pain after sleeping on it. The box that it was delivered in looked like someone played kickball with it for a few weeks. Thankfully the mattress was in great condition. The height is high for us height called people but I could tell from the pic, so I planned correctly for it."

"The firm side is actually VERY firm, which is what this mattress is marketed as. That said it remains cool and has some give, it's extremely heavy too. I took off 1 star because after puffing up it actually is a tiny bit bigger than spec, which makes it look a little awkward on my low slung platform bed. But the nights of sleep I get on this thing are worth it!"

My husband like firm, me

"My husband like firm, me not as much, but I was willing to try. We have started on the less firm (bottom) side, so I can get more use to it. Honestly, I absolutely love it. I'm sleeping great, am not sore or stiff in the mornings. So far, this is wonderful ! I also really appreciate the fact that this mattress is 2 sided. Instead of just rotating, it can actually be flipped over, extended the mattress life. For a very reasonable price, you are getting a mattress with twice the lifespan of all the memory foam ones."

I’ve been sleeping on the

"I’ve been sleeping on the Brooklyn Bedding Plank mattress and overall it’s a great choice if you like a very firm bed. The support is excellent—especially for back sleeping. It keeps your spine aligned and doesn’t let your hips sink, which has helped with lower back comfort. That said, it is definitely on the firmer side. For side sleeping, it can feel a bit too hard and put pressure on the shoulders and hips. Adding a topper makes a big difference if you switch positions during the night. Overall, I’d recommend the Plank for anyone looking for strong back support and a true firm feel, just keep in mind that side sleepers may want a little extra cushioning."

"The mattress is Ok. It’s great for first few weeks and then it sinks. The mattress doesn’t come with any handling straps and is just impossible to change sheets on this. It’s a two person work. The firm side is too soft for me. Extra firm is what I like but after 3-4 weeks that’s also almost firm now."

Amazing!

"I am so impressed with the Plank Firm Luxe mattress. I live in an old farmhouse and can't get a traditional mattress upstairs. I've always had to go with "a bed in a box" due to this, even though that's meant I've typically used softer or thinner mattresses. Honestly, I was a little unsure of just how firm this mattress could actually be since it came in a box. HOLY COW they showed me!! This is the most amazing mattress I have ever used, and I still can't believe it came in a box! It looks and feels just like a traditional mattress.
